2025 Honoree: Mr. Ray Lashaway

Today, in our recognition tradition for Region 16 Music Educators, we want to honor, Mr. Ray Lashaway!

For an astounding 43 years, Mr. Lashaway has been a steward of music education, shaping the lives and sound of West Texas. A graduate of Snyder High School and Texas Tech University, his career led him to inspire students at schools across the region, including McCamey, Andrews, Lubbock’s O.L. Slaton Middle School, and Frenship High School.

Beyond the podium, his passion for excellence shone brightly as he actively served for years as a respected adjudicator and clinician. He didn't just teach music; he dedicated himself to the vibrant community of musicians across our region.

Ray shared his life with his beloved band sweetheart, the late Sharon Lashaway, and together they had four children.

Mr. Lashaway, we salute your exceptional dedication to Region 16, beyond, and to the countless young band members you reached with music! The contributions you have made, the music you taught, the discipline you instilled, and the passion you sparked have created a ripple effect that will last for years to come.
