Region 16 Honorees

John M. Odom

John M. Odom graduated High School from Snyder High School, then attended Western Texas College earning his Associate Degree. He then attended Hardin-Simmons University where he received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree. He later received his Masters of Music Degree from West Texas A&M University and did further post graduate work at Wayland University.

John M. Odom began his teaching career in Miami, Texas. He then spent three years teaching in Memphis, Texas, before moving on to Olton, where he taught for six years. John later moved to Floydada, where he spent the next twenty years teaching and still resides today. Throughout his teaching career, his bands received numerous First Division ratings and awards. They have performed at Disney World, Disneyland, Branson, and many other venues over the years.

In addition to his teaching, he served as Region Coordinator for Region 16 of ATSSB for eleven years. Under his leadership, the All-Region Bands grew from three to nine bands, with over one thousand students participating in the All-Region process. Even after his retirement, he continued to contribute to the All-Region activities for thirteen years

Mr. Odom has been active as a clinician and consultant for the past fifteen years. He is married to Robbie Odom and has three children and five outstanding grandsons. He enjoys reading, drinking coffee, and the occasional good cigar.

Rob Lovett

Rob Lovett is in his 53rd year as a band director. He grew up in the Lubbock area and graduated from Petersburg High School. He attended Texas Tech University, where he served as Drum Major for the Goin' Band from Raiderland.

Throughout his career, he has taught band in several locations, including Lubbock, Brownfield, Albuquerque, Belen, and Ruidoso, New Mexico, as well as Muleshoe, Shallowater, and Lockney. For the past six years, he has been teaching at All Saints Episcopal School in Lubbock.

Rob and his wife, Debra, have a son, Brent, who resides in Georgetown.
